Slovak Edition of Moral Lessons of the Twentieth Century Released

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia: The Slovak edition of Moral Lessons of the Twentieth Century by Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, and Daisaku Ikeda was recently released by publisher Balneothermay. In their dialogue, the two draw on thoughts of various philosophers and religious figures to interpret the shifting cultural landscape since the collapse of the USSR and call for a new, human-centric ethic devoted to the principle of the sanctity of life.

To mark the launch of the book, a reception was held in Bratislava on November 26, 2009, which brought together members of the academic and literary communities, as well as STV, the Slovak Television network, the major dailies and magazines. The event's main guest was Dr. Anton Srcholec, who was a prisoner of conscience under the former communist regime of Czechoslovakia for 12 years.

The authors first met in July 1990 and have met on ten separate occasions, the latest taking place ON December 9, 2009. The Slovak edition represents the tenth language into which Moral Lessons of the Twentieth Century has been translated.

Mr. Gorbachev and Mr. Ikeda are currently working on a sequel (tentative title: Dawn of the New Century), part of which was serialized in the Japanese literary magazine, Ushio, between February and April 2009.
